Toy Review: Transformers Robots in Disguise (2015) Jazz (Warrior)

Review:  #273
Name:  Jazz
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Autobot
Line:  Robots in Disguise (2015)
Year of Release:  2015
Size Class:  Warrior (Wave 3)
Mold Status:  new

VEHICLE MODE:

Jazz transforms into a white sports car with some blue and red stripes.  This version of Jazz has a more rounded vehicle, particularly the hood being quite wide and tall.

While the rear has some good molding, they did not bother to paint anything at all, that includes the rear window, it's left an unpainted white.  This is extremely lazy and very disappointing.

Jazz is in the Warrior size class, which is roughly Deluxe.

He may look like he is fairly big but don't let that fool you.  Flip him over and you see how hollow and empty the car is, he's very light and the vehicle is effectively a shell of panels (although he's not really a shellformer).

His robot weapon can attach by plugging it onto the top, the designer took the easy way out instead of trying to integrate it into the vehicle.

Despite all the shortcomings, the sculpting and molding the vehicle is very nice, it just lacks some paint.

TRANSFORMATION:

Jazz's transformation is quite clever, the way the arms come out from the front of the vehicle, and then the hood creating his chest was interesting to learn for the first time.  The rest of the transformation is quite generic with the rear of the vehicle splitting in half to form his robot legs.

ROBOT MODE:

Jazz's robot mode is probably his stronger mode.  He feels as if he had just stepped out of the cartoon, it captures the aesthetics perfectly.

He does carry some kibble one his back, most notably the car roof, but he wears the doors as wings.

The head sculpt is very... odd.  It doesn't seem like Jazz at all and it is somewhat undefined.

Jazz is wider than normal, and so he doesn't come off as very tall in this mode.

At least his articulation is not lacking at all.  That said, some of his joints are very tight, particularly his knee swivels.

Thanks to transformation, Jazz had ankle tilts which helps a lot with some poses.

His weapon is a lance, it's not a weapon that Transformers use much, so it is quite a unique feature for Jazz.

He can hold it in either hand, and while he can also hold it like a gun, it looks stupid.

While he is still very white in this mode, the addition of more of his joints cast in black plastic helps with breaking it help.

This is a really good robot mode, he has some good proportions and a wide range of articulation.

OVERALL:

Jazz is one of the better RiD (2015) Warrior figures.  He has a nice (albeit a bit hollow) vehicle mode and a strong robot mode.  While the color scheme reflects Jazz, the head sculpt is a odd.  A good figure and if you find it for cheap, then he is a worthwhile purchase.
