Toy Review: Transformers Generations Power of the Primes Divebomb (Voyager)

Review:  #474
Name:  Divebomb
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Decepticon
Line:  Generations - Power of the Primes
Year of Release:  2018
Size Class:  Voyager
Mold Status:  new

BEAST MODE:

Divebomb transforms into a robotic eagle.  Note that the gold detail on his wings are all stickers that you have to put on yourself.

Divebomb sacrifices a bit in this mode for the combiner with an awkward leg design that doesn't sit close to the body of the eagle.  A neat aspect is the combiner torso doubles as a convincing tail.

The waist has a joint to allow Divebomb to stand upright.  He also has wings joints to allow them to tuck down.

Thanks to the wingspan, Divebomb is big in this mode.  He is approximately the height of a normal Voyager in robot mode but is a lot heftier.

Divebomb is actually one of the weaker Predacons since the eagle mode is not very aerodynamic, the awkward design of the lower legs and the obvious nature of a robot lying face down.

TRANSFORMATION:

Divebomb's transformation is laughably easy.  You extend the legs, open the eagle's mouth to reveal the head and unfold the arms from the sides.

ROBOT MODE:

Divebomb's robot mode is the eagle mode standing upright but even that isn't enough to save it from proportions that are slightly off.

He wears the wings as a huge backpack, an unfortunate compromise for the combined mode.

The headsculpt is not too bad and the face sits inside the mouth of the eagle, so even moving the head is kind of weird.

He is slight taller than a typical Voyager, but is much bulkier.

Articulation is good with a waist swivel plus joints for his hips, knees, shoulders and elbows.

Divebomb has the most stickers required than the other Predacons, mostly for his wings but a few for his shoulders and knees.

His weapons are a pair of long barreled guns.

He can hold the guns in either hand and they look really good.

Sadly, the handles are too short and doesn't allow Divebomb to grip it tightly enough.  There is a tendency for them to detach when even slightly moving the arms.

This is an average robot mode.  The odd proportions are offputting and the weapon design is disappointing.

OVERALL:

Divebomb is the team member who has the most compromises to make Predaking work.  The robotic eagle isn't too bad at the end of the day (since the large wingspan hides the awkward leg design) but the robot mode has several flaws.  He has odd proportions, an uninteresting and simple transformation and the inability to hold his weapons severely hold the figure back.
