To Love-Ru Vol. 3

VOL. 3 – ASSAULT! SECRET GARDEN
Trouble 17 – Tale of Love at the Beach

A chapter with a weak plot but fan service galore, haha, amusing the first time around (but I wouldn't read it more than once). There isn’t too much comedy in this chapter, and of course, the plot device is… stretching reality a bit too much (dolphins stealing beach ware?!).

Trouble 18 – Assault! Secret Garden

Another chapter that is setting up for the next one, unfortunate Rito is forcibly brought along onto a trip to the girls’ part of the hostel by his classmates. Sadly, they don't seem to have any loyalty for him once they are on the verge of being caught, still, Rito’s lucky, and where he’s hiding at the end, hehe, that was worth a few chuckles.

Trouble 19 – The Person I Like

From Rito’s hiding point he hears what Lala truly thinks of him, and isn’t it sweet? Even Rito’s touched, a good blend of comedy and a bit of slight romance mixed in makes it a good read, does make you think that in the end. Rito’s heart will eventually belong to Lala instead of Haruna where it was before. With this chapter, it ends the summary vacation arc that had lasted for five chapters.

Trouble 20 – The Transfer Student Who Brings a Storm

Enter the next prospective husband candidate… Ren! He’s not really a threat like the other candidates and becomes part of the main cast and he really livens things up. From the start of his appearance to the end, it was great, although some things were a bit overused. Like the way he says that he’s very important, but yet Lala does not remember him (talk about hopes being dashed…). The way he’s competing with Rito to win him at everything is very funny.

Trouble 21 – Eye-Witness

Seeing how girly Ren is (when he’s trying to prove he’s really manly) is comical, and of course, we cannot help but wonder why when they were small, Lala keeps forcing Ren to wear girls clothing. Rito’s heart gets confused again when he sees Ren hugging Haruna at a lover’s park, this really raises Rito’s fire, much to the reader’s benefit.

Trouble 22 – Rito vs. Ren

As the title suggests, the usually timid and uncaring Rito finally goes on the offensive (due to Haruna) and confronts Ren. And this creates a great opportunity for a race, a race to see who can kiss Lala first (in a way, another setup chapter for the next one, but one that is done quite well). A great chapter that leads into another good one, this is one chapter that I highly recommend, as it’s good and you find yourself at the end of the chapter in no time due to you flipping the pages so fast to see what’s going to happen.

Trouble 23 – Scramble for the Lips

The race for the lips begin, very enjoyable chapter, wanting to know who will win, and in the end, turns into a draw anyway. Rito finds out some things he didn't know about Lala which is moving in its own way. The actions of the two competitors create some funny situations, and they end up kissing each other in the end, heh, I for one, think it’s a good conclusion to the chapter. Trouble 23 is probably one of my more favourite chapters.

Trouble 24 – The Time of the Animals!?

The introduction of another side character (but thankfully not part of Rito’s harem), my least favourite one in fact, Saki Tenjouin and her two sidekicks, Rin and Aya. Boring chapter, no fun except for one or two comedic moments .

Trouble 25 – The Queen’s Temptation

Continuing on in terms of the story from the previous chapters, this one is a lot more enjoyable, especially seeing how Rito is ignoring (absent-mindly) from Saki’s seductions. Another great moment is when Lala is chasing Ren trying to get him to wear some girl clothing, classic, a good chapter.

Overall

A pretty good volume, it introduces a fair few new characters, expanding the cast so the stories are a lot more interesting and fun to read. It’s great to find out about some of the feelings of the characters, and loving the rivalry between Ren and Rito.
