To Love-Ru Vol. 4

VOL. 4 – I WANT TO KNOW MORE
Trouble 26 – The Sainan Festival is a Great Disaster

Overall a very simplistic chapter, it is basically the standard stuff, although the jokes are fairly new and good. Not really interested in this story and how it works out, but I can see others liking it. The events are a bit too out-of-whack for my liking.

Trouble 27 – Rito’s Long Day

Awesome chapter, I found this one to be very entertaining, a lot of great moments, I really enjoyed this one. Definitely recommend this chapter, although the general plot is pretty overused (Rito forgets his birthday but others don't). It also introduces a pretty cool side character (or should I say… plant?), Celine (she pops up in a frame from time to time). It’s really funny to see Rito’s reactions to everything (from getting angry with Ren, to receiving a present from Haruna).

Trouble 28 – Dreadful Invention

A two-chapter long story, it is amusing but nowhere near as great as the previous chapter. On its own, it’s nothing special, but reading the whole story arc is pretty funny.

Trouble 29 – Small Adventure

Situation humour is on its full run in this chapter, and it is good! I especially like the ending as I laughed out loud at that (Rito had become small, and in the end, as the effects wore off, he suddenly went back to normal size… just as someone was walking on top of him), this chapter makes reading the previous one worth it.

Trouble 30 – Ladies, Be Modest

Nowhere near as enjoyable as I thought it would be, good idea, but a bit lacking in execution. It is fairly boring and not as funny, as usual, Ren is there to brighten the small part he is in (I really like the jokes Ren is involved in). Turns out the school nurse is an alien too… seems like aliens are everywhere.

Trouble 31 – Don’t Be Angry

It feels like it should be a boring chapter, but it gets better at the end, another two chapter story, this one delves more into the feelings of the relationship (albeit slightly). I found myself wanting to skip the earlier pages but slowing down near the end.

Trouble 32 – I Want to Know More

The titular chapter of the volume, its best in terms of actually seeing something different and seeing some reflection of the characters. We also get more and more hints (although it’s pretty much confirmed now) that Haruna likes Rito as well. Instead of ending on a nice warm note, we get a funny scene as we see what Rito is dreaming about, kinda ruins the feel, but feels appropriate somehow.

Trouble 33 – Get the Present

I tend to find the chapters involving Saki to be the most boring, but this chapter is alright, although it’s another out-of-whack chapter. Again, it’s a two chapter story (this volume seems to have a lot of those), and it’s funny to see how Lala is in such an advantage over other people due to her abnormal powers.

Trouble 34 – Heavy Christmas

Typical joke used where Rito wants something because he thought it was from Haruna but turns out to be from Lala instead, so he went through all that trouble for nothing, heh. At least it’s not a total waste for him since Haruna got his present, and just seeing that, the ending, made reading the two chapters just barely worth reading.

Overall

A bit of an average volume, there are two good chapters in there (out of the nine in it), so it’s up to you whether you want to chug along the rest just to read those two. I find the story and jokes is not getting boring yet, so it’s still great fun for me to keep reading.
