Toy Review: Transformers ROTF Long Haul (Legends)

Review: #14
Name: Long Haul
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Decepticon
Line: Revenge of the Fallen
Year of Release: 2009
Size Class: Legends
Variations: There is a TakaraTomy (i.e. Japanese) version and a Hasbro version, and both companies repainted it into G1 green and purple

VEHICLE MODE:

Long Haul transforms into a mini-sized dump truck, passing off as fairly cute, yet realistic, in this scale. It should be noted that I've got the Japanese version, although I don't think it's any different to Hasbro's version. Anyway he rolls, and that's about it, the bed cannot tilt back as it's pegged into place.

He is decent for a Legends sized figure, with some mechanical details along the side. From the back, even though he has a gap and you can see his hands, it doesn't look so bad, and you get a sense of scale.

I love this dump truck, it fits into the size of your hand, fun to play with, and looks great. One of the best Legends vehicle I have seen. He doesn't carry much paint in this mode, so he's very green.

TRANSFORMATION:

Being such a small toy (and in addition to his ability to combine), Long Haul features a simple transformation, but it's really well done. It's great fun converting between modes, and it will literately take you seconds to get it from one mode to another. It has one of the least fiddly transformations out of the seven Constructicons.

ROBOT MODE:

That simple transformation led itself into a great robot mode, he looks menacing, with his wide stance and huge shoulder pads. The sculpting is great, but again, he is a bit small in terms of size.

He still doesn't contain a lot of paint, for some reason, they painted some pieces on both sides of his legs, even though the piece at the back is never really seen in all modes. His articulation is limited, only ball jointed hips and arms that swing out the side, he is very static.

Head sculpt is nice, a bit hard to make out the details coz it's so small. It should be noted that his legs are half his height, this might sound bad, but his long arms help balance it out. Overall, a very nice little robot.

OVERALL:

My favourite Constructicon Legends (and one of my favourite Legends toy) by far, all three modes (vehicle, robot, leg) are great. An easy transformation makes this guy a load of fun to play with, the only complaint I have is that he is a bit small. Long Haul is definitely recommended, even as a standalone toy.
