Book Review: Tales of Deltora

Review:  #229
Title:  Tales of Deltora
Series:  Deltora Quest - companion book
Author:  Emily Rodda
Read Before:  yes
My Comments:  A nice companion book to the Deltora Quest series, and one that provides a very rich back story.  When I first read it, I thought it would be a collection of short story, but to be honest, half the book is really one big story.  The first half was average in nature, and it even has two stories that were in the main series’ books, which I thought was lazy.  The second half was where it was excellent.  It tells the story of how Adin collected all the gems of Deltora and united the land, and it was told spectacularly.  You have to admit that the tale was so intricate, and the way it fitted into what had been told already, that the author had put a lot of thought in it.  I swear she must have had created it all from the start, because it did not feel like a shoddy patched up job.  That said, it really feels as if that second half could have benefited with a longer length, as it is too short.  The illustrations only serve to heighten the already solid experience.
