The Day the Earth Stood Still

This film was nothing like what I was expecting (I never watched the original 1951 movie).  This movie slowly built up the story, but even halfway into the movie, you were clueless on why the alien were here.  Due to this, I found the beginning of the movie to be uninspired and too slow to keep my attention.  It seemed confusing at times, and there hadn't seem to be a point in some of the events that were happening.  It also seemed that this movie had to have the person in power, that would not listen to reason and would resort to violence instead.  Furthermore, the character Jacob (the son), was annoying, typical and pretty much unnecessary.  I liked the theme though, in that it was the humans causing the planet to go into its breaking point.  The environmental impact that humans were causing.  Although you have to ask the question, what gave the aliens the right to decide that it was time to eradicate the human species.  The movie made the human responses and actions so pathetic and futile, as their enemies were far more technologically advanced.  The ending wasn't too satisfying and it didn't answer all the questions.  As it is, it did feel like a half finished movie.
