Book Review: G.I. Joe: Above & Beyond

Review:  #360
Title:  G.I. Joe:  Above & Beyond
Series:  G.I. Joe - movie prequel
Author:  Max Allan Collins
Read Before:  no
My Comments:  Not a bad movie tie-in, this prequel story has an engaging story.  It’s not stellar material, but it’s better than you would expect.  If you have seen the movie already, then you can see where the story is heading, especially the ending.  Other than a few familiar characters, then there’s not much that directly ties this canonically to the movie.  The ending felt dragged out, it would be better if it was shortened.  The story takes place a few years before the story starts, and pretty much at around the same time as the flashbacks in Rise of Cobra.  Character development is low; they are already fully developed at the start.  It’s more grounded to earth and there isn’t any spectacular or highly futuristic weapons/armors that you would have expected (but then again, the G.I. Joes aren’t the focus here).
