Book Review: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Review:  #361
Title:  G.I. Joe:  The Rise of Cobra
Series:  G.I. Joe - movie adaptation
Author:  Max Allan Collins
Read Before:  no
My Comments:  A surprisingly faithful adaptation to the film, right down to the one-liners.  If you’ve seen the film, then it’ll kill some of the enjoyment as you’d know what to expect.  Also as expected, a few of the action scenes don’t lend itself well to just text but the author did a reasonable job of describing it and make it more exciting.  The plot is straightforward, lacking cleverness (although this is not the fault of the author but more the fault of the scriptwriters).  If you’ve read the prequel, there are a few short passages which you will find most familiar (pretty much just copied word for word).  The Rise of Cobra isn’t as focused as Above & Beyond (the prequel novel) so by the end of the book, you just want it to finish and put it down.  It’s not a bad adaptation but the pacing can be slow at times.
