Book Review: Extinction: The Day The World Ended

Review:  #453
Title:  Extinction:  The Day The World Ended
Series:  Extinction - 1st book
Author:  Lizzie Wilcock
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Extinction presents an interesting premise.  A pair of twins experience through a catastrophic event that wipes out all of human race except eight.  They then experience weird happenings such as going back through time and given the chance to stop the catastrophe from happening in the first place.  Okay, it was actually quite boring and hard to get into during the first half but as the twins find out more on what is happening, the backstory and teaming up with other survivors (who were already travelling back in time, the time travel element was an interesting piece of the story), it turned out to be more intriguing and worthwhile.  It’s hard to describe the feeling when reading this book, on the one hand it doesn’t have the epic feel of a fantasy or sci-fi novel but events take on a surreal quality.  The concepts that are presented doesn’t gel with you immediately, such as the site the characters uses to get more information.  The ending was also very unsatisfying, leaving a cliffhanger and basically just stopping in the middle of nowhere.  It felt abrupt and unfinished.
