Book Review: The Penultimate Peril

Review:  #459
Title:  The Penultimate Peril
Series:  A Series of Unfortunate Events - 12th book
Author:  Lemony Snicket
Read Before:  yes
Comments:  Proudly marketed as the penultimate book in the series, you are constantly reminded throughout this whole story.  Continuing the trend from previous books, the author takes repetition and nonsense to heart, constantly including chunks of dialogue that has no value to the story whatsoever.  It gets to the point where you can ignore chunks of text and the events still would not have advanced, it’s disappointing and felt like padding the book to an excessive length.  If you ignore all of that, the core story is actually quite intriguing as there is a lot of mystery and deduction present.  It falls apart in the climax where it becomes a huge mess and extremely improbable and stupid.  It’s not the worse in the series but the style of writing and repetitive nature gets tiresome.
