Sleeping Beauty

Based upon the classic fairy tale of the same name, Sleeping Beauty tells the story of a princess who was cursed to fall asleep on her sixteenth birthday.  In true Disney fashion, there will be a happy ending and also a love at first sight with a handsome prince, which will feel superficial at this day and age.  However, the bright colorful palette and ageless aesthetics will keep your attention even when the story does not.  To pad out the story into feature length, there were a lot of dragged out scenes where it felt like they were deliberately going at a slower pace.  You don't really gel with Aurora since as the viewer, you don't learn much about her nor watch her growing up.  Rather, the protagonists in this movie is the three good fairies, who are funny and make for good characters.  I wished that Maleficent was fleshed out as a villain a bit more and the finale could have been epic but in the end, felt just a tad bit too short and the prince being quite useless overall.  Nevertheless this is a classic Disney animation that you should watch at least once.
