47 Ronin
Inspired by a culturally significant piece of Japanese story. The film tells the story of 47 masterless samurai (the Ronin) who sets out to avenge their Lord, who was murdered by trickery. A few liberties were taken in the story, the most significant of which was the addition of Keanu Reeves' character (also, the only non-Japanese actor in the entire film) and the fact that the film takes on a fantasy setting. I think it would have benefited the film if they didn't force the fantasy elements in, since it doesn't form a significant part of the plot anyway. It also showcases a high reliance of special effects in these scenes and the action scenes involving these fantasy creatures weren't that great. Otherwise, this is a tale of honor and loyalty and it is a good story. If the film was shortened by at least 15 minutes, it would been better since there were some pacing issues.
