Book Review: Skulduggery Pleasant: Last Stand of Dead Men

Review:  #494
Title:  Skulduggery Pleasant:  Last Stand of Dead Men
Series:  Skulduggery Pleasant - 8th book
Author:  Derek Landy
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Be prepared for more deaths and more shocks, as if the title didn’t already give is away, Last Stand of Dead Men focuses upon the Dead Men, who has reunited and fights against the Supreme Council.  The fun and style that’s presents with SkulduggeryPleasant books remains but the plot isn’t as tightly knit or as quickly paced as Kingdom of the Wicked.  It takes a while for the plot to kick into gear and for you to fully relax and enjoy what it has to throw at you.  Warlocks rise up at the same time as the Supreme Council warring against the Irish Sanctuary.  It’s a story of treachery and betrayal but this book runs into the same problems as previous books.  It has too many characters such that when someone whom maybe was briefly mentioned a while ago, does something shocking or dies, you don’t feel any attachment because there was none in the first place.  Finally, a lot of the subplots that had been building up in the past comes to light and intertwines with the overall narrative.  The ending is a cliffhanger, allowing you to eagerly anticipate the final book.
