The Smurfs
The Smurfs is the big screen adaptation of the comic books series of a the same name. It is a live-action film with the titular Smurfs being computer animated. It decidedly is aimed at a younger target audience and the film does not take itself too seriously and throws in a lot of humor. Yet the humor isn't funny, they are all old tired cliches which we have seen before time and time again. It felt as if the writers just browsed through old films and strung together humor from each one into the one movie and it doesn't work very well. The villain was supposed to be a clumsy bumbling wizard, you can tell what they were trying to aim for but it does not work, instead we get this lame weirdo for an antagonist and it kills the whole movie. The plot is your typical simple one in which the Smurfs try and find a way home from the real city of New York. It is predictable the whole way through and without any clever jokes or gags, The Smurfs is a bland movie. It's not bad in the way that makes you cringe but it will make you roll your eyes and feel that it's a very uneventful movie.
