300: Rise of an Empire
This sequel to 300 is based upon the Battle of Artemisium and Battle of Salamis. It actually takes place before, concurrently and after the events of 300, telling the other side of the story and the battle that was going on when Leonidas was facing off the Persians at the Thermopylae. Most of the battles in the film are naval scenes which provides a different sense of tactics and techniques compared to the original 300. It makes the film interesting but the stylistic choice of slow motioning everything and heavy gore continues on and depending on your tastes, you might love it or heavily dislike it. While the blood splattering everywhere and stylized gore fits well into the theme of the film, it can be over-the-top sometimes and goes too far. Once the film gets going, it is solid and keeps up the pacing. Not a great film by far but entertaining enough with the visual spectacles.
