Edge of Tomorrow
Edge of Tomorrow is a film that many would say is the science fiction version of Groundhog Day. This is because the central plot is that the main character, Cage, relives one day over and over again. What makes this film different is the setting: aliens has invaded Earth and Cage, through a series of unfortunately events, finds himself thrust into battle as a soldier, with no combat experience. Once he dies, he finds himself at the beginning of the day again and throughout the film, he begins to improve and live longer each day. He also finds an ally who believes what he is experiencing and together, they will find a way to defeat the aliens once and for all. While the plot isn't extraordinary clever, Edge of Tomorrow was fun and entertaining. It manages to insert humor at the right places and keeps the pacing up so that it never gets boring or repetitive. The actors turn in a strong performance most of the time but there are a few scenes where it slips up. The survival of the main character towards the climax suspends some of your beliefs. Learning about the powers and weaknesses of the aliens was interesting and while the ending was weak, Edge of Tomorrow is an excellent film.
