Book Review: Watch Wolf

Review:  #529
Title:  Watch Wolf
Series:  Wolves of the Beyond - 3rd book
Author:  Kathryn Lasky
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Faolan was made a wolf of the Watch, one of the most prestigious positions available, especially one from his origins.  Watch Wolf starts off with Faolan and his initiation into the Watch, from what his purpose is his duty.  He is joined by Edme, a fellow Watch wolf and throughout the book, malice and pettiness is central to the plot, although not to the same degree as the previous book, Shadow Wolf.  The plot revolves around the behavior of grizzlies and their relationship with the wolves.  A war is brooding when a cub is kidnapped, no prizes on guessing who stops it though.  While the consequences are dire, Watch Wolf never elevates the tension to unbearable levels, truly, at the end of the book, you feel as if there wasn’t much that had transpired.  The ending also gives closure to Faolan’s birth mother, ending that subplot.  Overall, not a bad story but it could have been improved upon.
