Book Review: Allegiant

Review:  #582
Title:  Allegiant
Series:  Divergent Trilogy - 3rd and final book
Author:  Veronica Roth
Read Before:  no
Comments:  The finale to the Divergent Trilogy is in some ways great, and in others disappointing.  One of the surprising turn of events is how quickly it reveals the secret of the city and what is beyond the outer limits.  The reason though, once you find out, isn't all that special and has a hint of exaggeration to it.  After the characters escape the whole factions thing and their differences, essentially, new factions are introduced and discrimination happens.  Sure, this is a theme of the series but it feels worn out by this point.  The plot and tone feels very different to the previous two books and from what the readers end up learning about this world, will make the previous two books feel redundant.  The point of view alternates between Tris and Four but can get confusing at times if you don't pay enough attention.  There is more focus upon Tris and Four's relationship, with an abundance of more intimate moments (nothing too intimate), however, it feels unnecessary and out of place sometimes, these moments pop up too frequently.  The solution to all the problems is the main characters doing the act that they hate most, and while the author tries to highlight the significance and consequences of the decision, just feels too hypocritical considering the whole point of the series was about doing what's right.  The ending and what happened to the main characters can be disappointing depending on how you feel, like the rest of the plot, once you get to this point, all that came before it feels pointless and it doesn't feel much like a happy ending.  Allegiant is an interesting book and a fitting end to the series, but there are a lot of elements that may not gel well with everybody.
