Book Review: Demon Road

Review:  #590
Title:  Demon Road
Series:  Demon Road - 1st book
Author:  Derek Landy
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Demon Road is a fantastic start to the new series by Derek Landy.  Amber is a normal girl (albeit socially inept) and finds out that she is in fact a demon.  She ends up on the run from people wanting to kill her and absorb her power and it is a race against time as she had made a deal with the Shining Demon.  The resulting journey is fun, intense and engaging.  Amber meets up with various characters and supernatural beings.  In each encounter, you sit on the edge of your seat waiting to find out how Amber is going to get out of this one and how the rest of the story will unfold.  With the chasers constantly catching up with Amber, it can get very intense and suspenseful.  One flaw though is that Amber’s general attitude and sarcastic nature bears some similarity to Valkyrie from the Skulduggery Pleasant series.  Demon Road will suck you in right from the first chapter and will not let you go until its last word.  Unfortunately, with the action escalating all the way to the last page, the ending feels unsatisfactory.  It obviously sets up a sequel and in a way, the book doesn’t feel like it really ends.  Demon Road has an amazing fantasy story that’ll keep you thinking about it even after the ending.
