Sahara (2005)
Based upon the book by Clive Cussler, it is about a treasure hunter finding the long-lost ironclad CSS Texas, which takes the protagonist, Dirk, to Mali and Nigeria. Complicating this adventure is the fact that Mali is in civil war, and he finds himself meeting a doctor from the WHO, who suspects a plague is coming out from Mali. What they discover is something more sinister, and of course, ends up threatening the world. Surprisingly, Sahara is more action-oriented than you would expect, with plenty of fistfights, gunfights and close shaves. It has a unique setting, since it's based in the desert and while it doesn't carry a complex plot, it works well and is easy to understand. The film has a lot of things going on so by the time the one hour mark is up, you feel as though more time should have passed. The characters are likable but it starts to deviate into more exaggerated territory during the climax. Overall, it is a decent film.
