Deadpool (2016)
It finally happened, years after the leaked test shot, we have Ryan Reynolds starring at Deadpool in a fantastic and funny movie showcasing this antihero's origins. The writers went all out and did not hold back, the film is filled with gory dismemberments, heaps of swearing and a huge dose of crude humor. Most of these work although there are times where you might feel that there is a lot of it and while it is what defines the character, it can be overwhelming and over-the-top. Naturally, the film does not take itself too seriously and there were some great jokes, including breaking the fourth-wall. A lot of the fight scenes have special effects due to the slow motion panning, which is quite obvious. The story is a simple revenge tale, Deadpool is out to kill the person who created him, destroying any good looks he's had and threatened his girlfriend. This revenge tale is expanded upon enough such that you care about the character, including the love interest. It's a shame that there wasn't any cameos from the X-Men films. Overall, Deadpool has more hits than misses, great action sequences and a solid story, it is definitely worth a viewing if you are even remotely interested in the character.
