Book Review: Accel World 6: Shrine Maiden of the Sacred Fire

Review:  #608
Title:  Accel World 6:  Shrine Maiden of the Sacred Fire
Series:  Accel World - 6th volume
Author:  Reki Kawahara
Read Before:  no
Comments:  This sixth volume introduces a crucial new character who joins Nega Nebulus.  After the revelation of Silver Crow’s parasite in the last volume, you would expect something in this volume to talk about how to resolve the problem.  The answer comes with this new character, Utai.  Shrine Maiden of the Sacred Fire is actually very passive and nowhere near as action packed as the last few volumes.  It spends a lot of time following Haruyuki and his normal life, and his interactions with his friends.  Even when they burst into the Accelerated World, there isn’t much battling going on and with the new concepts constantly introduced, the drying out of fresh and awesome ideas was bound to happen.  Yes, a lot of new features of the Brain Burst program is revealed here, but it is straying more towards RPG gaming elements rather than the amazing practical elements and intricate mechanics like before.  The worst scenario is how predictable the plot becomes in the final arc.  The Legion embarks on a bold plan and you know that it is going to be awry when lo and behold, it does and the volume ends in a cliffhanger.  Overall, Shrine Maiden of the Sacred Fire while enjoyable, is a step down from the previous more interesting volumes.
