Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

The long awaited clash between Batman and Superman on the big screen ever since it was announced, and it does not live up to the pre-release hype and excitement.  Ignoring that, it is not as horrible as critics may make it seem.  Sure, the plot is bloated.  It masks a simple storyline with too many unnecessary scenes.  It also has confusing flashbacks and amateur dream sequences of Bruce Wayne during the first hour.  Yet it puts on a more serious take and looks into the consequences of Superman's actions in Man of Steel.  On the one hand, Superman had to do what he had to in order to save the city, on the other, you can see Bruce Wayne's point of view too with all the innocent casualties.  Unfortunately, Batman isn't that much better because he just goes in and kills all the criminals anyway without a care in the world.  It takes a long long time for Dawn of Justice to build the tension and finally arrive at the titular scene of the battle between Batman and Superman.  However it fails in this as well since Batman is clearly outclassed and the battle somehow feels boring and bland.  Batman also quickly forgives Superman and joins forces.  After the 1.5 hours of both hating each other, they sure threw away their differences very quickly.  Once the real antagonist is revealed it forces the viewers to once again for the umpteenth time, suspend their disbelief.  For a movie where it is supposed to be more realistic than the Marvel equivalent, it is actually more implausible.  Nevertheless, it presents a neat sneak peak at Justice League, and when Wonder Woman shows up to assist, it is fantastic.  Overall, Dawn of Justice isn't a great movie, but it is a solid film.  The pacing can be a mess at times but it is worthwhile to watch.  Man of Steel didn't set a high bar, and neither does Dawn of Justice.
