The Big Short (2015)

The Big Short tells the story of the global financial crisis in 2008 and how certain people managed to predict it, using the opportunity to leverage off massive gains.  It is told in an engaging manner and presents the unfairness and corrupt nature of the banking system.  It doesn’t paint Wall Street in a rosy manner but rather how selfishness, greed and overconfidence led to the crisis.  The Big Short is serious for the most part but finds humourous ways to explain complicated concepts to the audience.  With even a little understanding and interest in the mechanics and lead up, as well as the difficulties of the people who got it right to be properly compensated, The Big Short is amazing.  The performances of the actors are really strong.  While it is a bit overbloated with multiple viewpoints especially towards the end, seeing the film to its conclusion and its final impacts, makes it a fantastic movie.
