Book Review: Finn Fancy Necromancy

Review:  #706
Title:  Finn Fancy Necromancy
Series:  Finn Fancy - 1st book
Author:  Randy Henderson
Read Before:  no
Comments:   Finn Fancy Necromancy is set in a world filled with magic, and the protagonist, Finn, was exiled to the Other Realm for 25 years.  He returns to his body, only to have lost all his memory between the time of his exile to now.  The author does a fantastic job of depicting a person trying to catch up with 25 years’ worth of technology all at once.  Plus, it doesn’t help that Finn is back into trouble immediately, with unknown forces trying to kill him, and Finn trying to catch up on his love life.  The writing is strong and the plot is filled with mysteries that come together to a fantastic climactic ending, with huge revelations that made the occasional bland stretches worthwhile.  The cheesy and clever humor is a perfect blend, and the world is entertaining.  We’re left craving for more details of how this world works, from the branches of magic to Finn’s power to speak to the dead, and the rules governing the place.  It’s a bit frustrating with some of the characters’ actions, and the hidden nature of the antagonist for most of the novel, but overall, a fantastic first novel from the author.
