Book Review: No Game No Life Vol. 5

Review:  #758
Title:  No Game No Life Vol. 5
Series:  No Game No Life - 5th volume
Author:  Yuu Kamiya
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Volume 5 continues on with Shiro and Sora’s (Blank) attempt to beat the Siren Queen’s game in order to annex both the races of Siren and Dhampir into Elkia.  After the cliffhanger of the previous volume, the plot spends no time in throwing the pair into a high stake game... but surprisingly against the Flugel no less.  Atop of Avant Heim, they don’t play shiritori but something a lot more physical which throws the pair off guard.  It’s not explained straight away how playing against the Flugel will achieve Blank’s objective, that is part of the fun during the various big reveals towards the end of the book.  Like previous volumes, the writing suffers from a slightly bland and confusing choice of words (which could be the translation, or maybe the original Japanese version was like this), which makes it a lot harder to appreciate the thought that went into the plot.  Despite that, there are still crazy moments when Blank’s plans come together and you realize how crazily insane it was, or the funny dialogue that just makes you laugh out loud.
