The Founder (2016)
The Founder tells the story on Ray Kroc, and how he created and brought the McDonald's fast food chain to the mega-empire that it is today. It is based on the true story and within the first thirty minutes, we are treated to Ray meeting the McDonald's brothers for the first time, Dick and Mac. They give Ray a tour of the kitchen and their secret in managing to prepare and serve the food so quickly, in an age where service was slow and in drive-ins where waitresses literally bring out platters of food to your car. It was interesting and engrossing. Then comes the part where Ray decides to enter into a contract with the McDonald's brothers and franchise the whole thing. We see the hurdles that Ray has to overcome in order to build it up and this is where the film starts to paint both Ray and the McDonald's brothers in a bad light from time to time. On the one hand, we understand Ray's point of view where he needs more flexibility in order to expand. However we also see Dick's side where he does not want his own name tarnished and represent something that he isn't. In the end, Ray wins and McDonalds explodes but he is seen as dealing some underhanded tactics in the process. The Founder is a strong solid film and it is great to see how McDonald's began and its controversial history.
