Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)

Pacific Rim:  Uprising is the sequel to the 2013 film and gets together more Jaeger (giant robots) vs Kaiju (giant monsters) action.  Not all the cast returned (notably, Raleigh isn't in the film) but enough supporting characters do that it feels like a proper sequel.  There is only one reason to watch Uprising, and that is for the fights which unfortunately, it takes a long while to get into.  Not only do you have to wait around an hour for the story to be set up, the early fights you do get are Jaeger vs Jaeger.  That being said, the plot isn't as much of a throwaway as you'd expect.  It does try a little bit too hard but in the end, the plot twist was fun and served as a nice next step for the franchise.  Once you get to the climax of the film and the epic fight begins, nearly all is redeemed.  From the trailers, it seemed like the Jaegars seem to be able to move much quickly with plenty of somersaults, which threw away what made the first one so good with its heavy movements.  It is not as bad in film but it is become more like Transformers with the Jaegars being so nimble and performing acrobatics.  It just doesn't feel as realistic for giant heavy lumbering robots.  Overall, Pacific Rim:  Uprising may not have the same wow factor as the first film but it is still a lot of fun and lives up to expectations.
