Cars 3 (2017)
Cars 3 takes on a similar premise as the original. Lightning McQueen is coming on in age and with the advancement of technology that the younger generation is so fond of, Lightning is finding himself unable to keep up the pace. It is a sad fact to see Lightning start to lose his relevance but you can see how the focus on the science of aerodynamics, better traction from tires etc is undeniable.. The plot follows a near identical structure as the original film with Lightning withdrawing from the spotlight and then taking on some classic training. It can feel repetitive and contrived when Lightning finds a mentor that ends up teaching him what he should have already learn from his original mentor, with similar training methods. However, towards the climax of the film, you can start to predict where this is all leading and when it does come to pass, it feels like a natural progression of Lightning's character and his experience as a successful racer. While most of film doesn't truly stand out, the emotional depth of the plot towards the end helps redeem it.
