Book Review: Tintin in the Land of the Soviets
Review: #856
Title: Tintin in the Land of the Soviets
Series: The Adventures of Tintin – 1st book
Author: Herge
Comments: The first in The Adventures of Tintin series is noticeably weaker than later instalments, which is somewhat expected as the author would still be working out the style. Tintin is a reporter and he travels to Russia to report on their communistic society. It heavily stereotypes the characters and the plot ends up becoming a repeating cycle of Tintin meets bad guys, bad guys tries to capture Tintin, Tintin fights, Tintin wins, Tintin escapes. It gets tedious very soon and it isn’t helped when Tintin are constantly exposed to dangers which would kill him such as crashing a plane, surviving an explosion, being frozen in a blizzard. These exaggerated scenes make it hard to enjoy the comic and ultimately, makes the title a chore to finish.
