Book Review: Strike Witches: One-Winged Witches Vol. 1

Review:  #869
Title:  Strike Witches:  One-Winged Witches Vol. 1
Series:  Strike Witches:  One-Winged Witches – 1st volume
Author:  Humikane Shimada & Projekt Kagonish
Comments:  One-Winged Witches is a spin-off manga that focuses on Wilma Bishop and the events that transpire when she is transferred to the Isle of Wight detachment.  The volume pretty much focuses on the squad of newbies, each with their own past.  Each chapter or so spends time with another character as we get to understand them and their backstories.  Unfortunately, it falls down flat in a lot of places since it’s filled with clichéd scenes and seemingly more focused on showing fan service scenes rather than flesh out the story.  There’s not much happening in the volume, characters go out on patrol in pairs, Neuroi occasionally attacks and each finds themselves growing from the experience, it’s all very average.
