Book Review: Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project 18

Review:  #879
Title:  Neon Genesis Evangelion:  The Shinji Ikari Raising Project 18
Series:  Neon Genesis Evangelion:  The Shinji Ikari Raising Project – 18th and final volume
Author:  Osamu Takahashi
Comments:  The final volume of The Shinji Ikari Raising Project is pretty much as low key as the rest of the series.  If you were hoping for some sort of resolution, then you’re out of luck.  We’re treated to a bit more of a reveal of what the trio were testing, with some ominous scenes involving SEELE but that’s about it since the last arc use a generic plot device.  It’s your typical friendship, good memories and let’s keep living like this forever type of story.  So who does the ever popular Shinji chooses?  You might be disappointed once you find out.  Asuka doesn’t seem as annoying as she warms to all the other characters and finally starts to accept her feelings more.  Still, while the slice-of-life aspect was great at times, you can’t help but feel that the series never got above and beyond what it could have been.
