Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector (2020)
Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector is the movie sequel to the third season and takes place directly after that season’s ending. The movie is split into three roughly 45 minute sections and finally serves as the resolution of the third season. The first part has an assault on the Public Safety Bureau and spends all its time on it. The organization behind everything, Bifrost, has at last come to the forefront after behind in shadows all this time. All the characters, both past and present, show up to team together and while the pacing is still somewhat slow, it is faster than season three. The second part continues on with the situation in the building and is probably the best part. This is because there is a lot more action and things actually seem to be happening. More is reviewed about the Azusawa’s plan, although this is also the point where you feel if they couldn’t have just shortened the length of the whole thing as there’s still plenty of scenes which feel like it doesn’t contribute much. The final part is as you’d expect, where everything is wrapped up and the story is completely resolved. Was it worth the wait? It is hard to say although they did manage to finalize most, if not all, of the plot threads which is actually quite a commendable effort. Overall, Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector’s biggest flaw is that it is literally extra episodes of the third season. It cannot be watched as a standalone and this will put off a lot of viewers.
