Komori-san Can’t Decline (2015)

Komori-san Can’t Decline is based upon the four-panel manga series. There are 12 episodes and like its source material, each episode is short in length at only two minutes long, and that’s including the credits.

The protagonist is Komori Shuri, who is a middle schooler. For some reason, everyone asks her for favors or help for a variety of things. Komori can’t turn them down due to her good nature. This leads to some exaggerated moments like when strangers keep asking her for directions, or when she allows others to go before her and she ends up getting nowhere as a result.

Komori stands out in other ways compared to the other students as well. She is unusually tall, and she has large breasts which the anime loves to emphasize upon. Komori is decent at athletics as well. She’s portrayed as being able to do pretty much anything. Komori is flanked by two friends, Megumi, and Masako. Both have their unique traits, and both often rely on Komori.

Despite the short episodes, you can tell that Komori has great friendships. The later half of the episodes focuses on that as well as giving her an existential crisis given that she is so heavily reliant on other people relying on her. Time passes quick in-universe, especially when Komori must consider which high school to move to.

Overall, Komori-san Can’t Decline is something that is short and simple. It’s something that you can quickly enjoy as a breather between other longer and more intense anime. While there are funny scenes, it’s not focused on making you laugh out loud all the time. The episodes are short, but they somehow still manage to showcase a lot about Komori, her friends, and her situation.
