This is the film that made a marked change in comparison to the previous two adaptations. Not only are the actors noticeably older, but the film itself is much darker. This is somewhat in tone with the books but it still feels odd and jarring. It seems like it is trying to be serious, yet there are some very cheesy and cringe-worthy moments. It seems that the writer's vision of the books isn't quite what you would expect. The acting is pretty shoddy at times, where the actors are either very cardboard like or they do some exaggerated emotion which does not reflect the scene well. Most of the humour was good, yet there were those moments where the gags feel either cliche or too corny to really work. In terms of the story, they did a good job in condensing it into two hours. There were still plot points that were glazed over, with characters jumping to conclusions without explanation to the viewer how they got there, so the movie can feel disjointed. It also lacks the cleverness from the book about the time travel aspect.
