X-Men: First Class
Can't say that it's still true, but X-Men: First Class is the best X-Men film. It was interesting and it had a urgent feel in the atmosphere that feels lacking in the other X-Men films. Like Origins, this movie is a prequel to the original trilogy but I think it is ignoring the events of X-Men: The Last Stand (which is fine by me). It tells the story right from the very beginning, when Xavier met Erik (Magneto) and I found Mystique's story melding into this one interesting as well. All characters are played by different actors, to represent their younger age. The story is very similar to the second movie though in which a mutant wants to declare war against the humans and the X-Men stop him. It could be a sense of irony to mirror the same events that Magneto will eventually unleash upon the world in the future. Characters with new abilities are introduced and the thing I find with X-Men is that since so many characters have special powers, it lacks the superhero feel and you can't cheer for just one of them. Anyway, the story was tense and it made sense. It was enjoyable although there were a few scenes that relied on special effects and you can tell that it wasn't real. A good movie that finds a good balance between storytelling and action scenes.
