Comments: Rivers of London is about a police constable who becomes an apprentice and learns magic. The book itself is a detective story with sprinklings of supernatural here and there. The police constable meets a ghost and investigates an attack of a person, who subsequently dies (and has his face fallen off). The mystery doesn’t ever rise to a peak but the multitude of supernatural elements that are introduces keeps you interested the whole way around. That said, it seemed like the author was trying to cram too many things such that you can feel lost as what story the book is trying to tell you. It builds up to a brilliant climax which ends a bit before the actual end of the book. The revelation of the real killer isn’t extraordinary and feels like a missed opportunity. The title of the book takes from the personifications of the different rivers of London that helps out the protagonist. A solid story but it feels more like a pilot story that prepares you for something better later on.
