Toy Review: Transformers Generations Titans Return Wheelie

Review:  #338
Name:  Wheelie
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Autobot
Line:  Generations - Titans Return
Year of Release:  2016
Size Class:  Legends (Wave 1)
Mold Status:  new

VEHICLE MODE:

Wheelie transforms into a small orange sports car, that has a distinctly futuristic or kiddy look to him.

This is actually a pretty good car.  The back may be a bit ugly but at least it isn't a big empty gap.

In terms of size, Wheelie is a Legends toy and is roughly the same size as others from that size class (above is Combiner Wars Shockwave).

A quick comparison with a Titan Master (in this case, the one from Hardhead) roughly shows the scale between the two.

The interactivity in this line is something to be impressed about.  In Wheelie's case, his windshield can lift up and you can place a Titan Master inside.  Unfortunately, Wheelie himself doesn't peg together too well so you may end up dislodging the front of the vehicle.

Wheelie comes with a card with a nice piece of artwork on it.

Not a bad vehicle mode, and it manages to make the cheesy vehicle mode of the original work.

TRANSFORMATION:

Wheelie's transformation is nothing to be sneezed at because it is clever for something of this size.  The way the front tyres fold to become the back of the legs and reveal the detailing on the shins is nice.  However, the best aspect is how the empty cockpit collapses upon itself to form the torso.

ROBOT MODE:

The robot mode is good although there seems to be something off with his shoulders and forearms.

He doesn't have any kibble at all which is surprising and he holds together quite well in this mode.

The headsculpt is solid.  It's fairly organic as all Season 3 characters were.  The head is on a swivel so it can only look from side to side.

He is about the same size as other Legends figures.  He can look a bit stocky due to the wider stance but shorter height.

Articulation is excellent.  He has a waist swivel which is becoming quite common nowadays.

The absence of a weapon really hurts.  It would have been nice for Wheelie to have a gun or his slingshot.

The heels are also annoying in that they aren't that useful in dynamic poses.

Otherwise, this is fantastic robot mode that may even get you over the annoying characterisation from the movie.

OVERALL:

Wheelie is a clever little figure.  The transformation scheme is one of the most inventive in this size class.  While the vehicle has some issues holding together well it's still strong.  The robot mode looks nice and this is pretty much the best representation of the character yet.
