Toy Review: figma #347 Ram (Re;Zero - Starting Life in Another World)

Review:  #462
Name:  Ram
Brand:  figma (Re;Zero - Starting Life in Another World)
Year of Release:  2017 (#347)
Variations:  none

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS:

Rem comes in a standard figma box with pink as the primary color (matching her hair).

She is from the light novel and anime series Re;Zero - Starting Life in Another World, however, she is not as popular as her twin sister Rem.

Speaking of which, Ram was the figma numbered right before Rem, and having the pair is pretty cool.

Ram comes with a bunch of accessories:  two additional faces, stand, knife, hand holding a potato, tray, a second hairstyle, four pairs of hands plus one half of the holding hands pose with Rem, figma stand and a plastic bag.

The outer packaging of the inner contents is a piece of cardboard that you can pop out to make a secondary stand.

In addition to the default neutral face, she comes with a smiling face and a shouting face, which is paired with the parted hairstyle.

While she has four pairs of hands, they are not all symmetrical as there is a unique pose for each hand.

The figma bag is a thick plastic to hold all the accessories when not in use.

The figma stand comes in two pieces, and is articulated at the base, the middle and the neck.

Finally, she comes with a small kitchen knife, a tray and another hand holding a peeled potato (which is to be paired with the knife).

FIGURE:

The figure is a faithful recreation of the character design, wearing her maid uniform.

There are plenty of great detailing and the coat tails are made of soft flexible plastic, allowing for an authentic look while not in danger of breaking either.

The headsculpt is pretty good and she comes with a neutral, almost sad, face.

A quick comparison with another figma for size, above is Asuna ALO ver., you can see that Ram is a little bit shorter than your standard figma.

Even without the stand, Ram easily stands on her own despite the small feet, this is thanks to the ankle joints which has a decent range of motion.

Changing faces is easy.  You pull the front piece of her hair which allows you to then swap the faces.  Her second face is a smiling one.

Swapping hands is also easy since they just pop out.  Although from time to time you may end up accidentally popping the hinged wrist joint too but since they are all pegs, they're simple enough to reattach without damaging anything.

Her knife, while small, still has the detail you'd come to expect.  There are five characters on the handle.

Thanks to the thin handle of the knife, it slips easily into Ram's gripping hand.

To complete the look, you can also attach the hand holding the peeled potato.

The second alternate face is the shouting angry face, this is usually for pairing up with the parted hair (for when Ram uses magic).

Unfortunately, there are no included accessories to mimic the magic that Ram uses, such as the wind magic from the anime.

The skirt is made of a more rigid, yet still flexible plastic, which allows a decent amount of range for her legs.

Like her twin sister, Ram comes with a tray.  This can be hard to balance since it is resting on top of the open hand, with no indents or grooves to keep it in place.

Something worth mentioning is the the blue hairpiece is detachable, so you have to be careful it doesn't accidentally drop off and be lost.

The figure is well painted and careful application means that it is not easily rubbed off when handling it.

Lastly, Ram comes with one of the joined hands, which is specifically to be paired with Rem in their iconic pose during their introductory scene.

Paired with Rem, they look great together as a set, even though they are 90% the same figure, only featuring a different hairstyle and some accessories.

Despite that, it is a shame that Ram doesn't come with any additional weapons, especially compared with Rem's flail.

Nevertheless, this is a great figure with no negatives.

OVERALL:

Being the less popular character, unfortunately Ram is regulated to mainly being the matching set to Rem.  Despite that, the pricing is pretty good for these two so it doesn't hurt your wallet as much.  She does complement Rem a lot and comes with enough unique accessories that it doesn't feel like the exact same figure.
