Toy Review: figma #346 Rem (Re;Zero - Starting Life in Another World)

Review:  #461
Name:  Rem
Brand:  figma (Re;Zero - Starting Life in Another World)
Year of Release:  2017 (#346)
Variations:  none

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS:

Rem comes in a standard figma box with blue being the primary color.

She is from the light novel and anime series Re;Zero - Starting Life in Another World (obtaining significant amount of popularity)

But of course, you cannot have one twin without the other and Ram was released soon after as the next figure in the figma line.

Rem comes with plenty of accessories including:  stand, alternate hair for demon mode, glasses tray, flail, a rigid handle and chain for the flail, stand for the flail, four pairs of hands, two faces and plastic bag to hold it all when you're not using it.

Furthermore, the cardboard sleeve doubles as a punch-out cardboard stand.

Rem's weapon is a flail and there are two handles.  One is a soft chain (thus it cannot hold a pose) and the other is a more rigid, but still flexible plastic.

Her alternate faces are a smiling happy face and an angry psychotic face, which pairs with the horned hair piece.

She has three complete pairs of hands, and then a left hand for pointing, and one half of the jointed hand for the iconic hugging pose with her sister in their introduction in the anime.

The plastic bag is useful to hold all the smaller parts in order to not lose them.

The standard figma stand is jointed in three places to allow freedom in posing.

She has a tray (since Rem is a maid after all), however there are no pegs or anything to let her hold it securely...

And finally, the secondary stand for the flail, mainly for use in action poses.

FIGURE:

In true figma fashion, Rem is fantastically detailed and accurate to her design.

Her coat tails are comprised of soft flexible plastic and she looks amazing all in all.

Rem's default face is a slight downcast pout.  Despite her hair covering her right eye, it's still there if you take off the hair piece.

A quick comparison against another figma, in this case, ALO Asuna, and Rem is a little bit shorter than normal.

Swapping faces is as easier as pulling the front piece of her hair off, taking the face off and replacing it with the one of your choosing and then popping the hair back on.

Her smiling face looks great.  Swapping hands is also very easy as you just need to pull the hands to expose the peg, no issues here.

Articulation is excellent with joints in her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles and upper torso.

Her feet may look small but Rem is still able to stand securely without falling over with the figma stand.

Rem can hold the tray but you must use a specific hand and then carefully balance it on top.  It'll probably fall a few times as you try and adjust it, making it not worthwhile in the end.

Some sort of groove on the underside of the tray would have solved the issue of it constantly falling off at the slightly nudge.

If you have her sister Ram, you can recreate the pose from their anime introduction when they hold hands and look towards Subaru.  It's pretty awesome and a great incentive to own both figures.

Rem has her demon form complete with her horn and a psychotic face.

She truly looks fearsome and crazy, not to mention powerful, with that face.

Rem's able to hold the flail with the handle neatly slotting into her hand without any issues.

The default chain of the flail is a true chain and hangs loose.

You're able to replace the chain with one comprised of flexible plastic that's able to hold it's shape as an arc.  However, you'll need to use the second smaller stand to prop up the spiked ball at the end.

With this in place, Rem's able to pull off some dynamic attacking poses.

Note that her hair tie is a separately piece that can be detached, making it possible to accidentally lose it.

Rem and Ram are very similar (being twins and all), thus their figures are pretty much identical except for their hair and face pieces.  They share most of the same accessories too.

Nevertheless, Rem is an awesome figure and a great rendition of the character, especially if you prefer poseable versions of your favourites.

OVERALL:

Rem is a great figma, and even better, she's in the lower price range too.  Yes, she is a tad bit shorter than other figmas but she holds so much charm and packs in plenty of detail.  If you get Rem, then it'll be even better to get her sister Ram as they look great together and have a bit of interactivity too.
