Brave
If you're looking for a movie in a similar vein to previous Disney Pixar movies, then Brave is not going to be the one. It does not have that unique touch that makes it stand out. While many of Disney Pixar's movies have an imaginative premise, Brave does not. It felt much more grounded and more like your typical animation movie that just tries to be funny, not smart, not clever and not imaginative. It feels very bland and when the credits start rolling, you're left thinking "is that it?". The problem here lies in how the plot was executed. The basic premise is that the protagonist's mother has been turned into a bear and they must find a way to turn her back, along the way, they forgive each other etc. This kind of story (and moral) has been done many times before and there's not surprises here to set it apart. The gags were cliche-styled ones such that you roll your eyes instead of chuckling. The heavy-ish accent (thanks to where the film's setting is) gets distracting. In terms of distraction, the lead character's hair needs to be toned down a bit. The whole movie is predictable which takes the enjoyment out of it, it tries to give you an emotional punch at the ending but it doesn't quite work. While there isn't anything that's bad about the movie, it feels very average.
