Alien
A classic horror film from 1979 that still entertains in this very day. That being said, for newcomers who watch it for the very first time after being used to more action packed contemporary movies, may find Alien to be a bit boring and bland in the first hour. The first hour sets up the plot and it is only in the last half hour where the alien truly shows its horrifying self. The rest of the movie relies on the viewer knowing that the alien is out there, ready to kill its next victim, but without really showing itself. The alien design is fantastic and the way it was introduced is memorable. The flicking lights near the end of the film was a bit annoying but otherwise being alone on such a big ship in outer space, with this predator hunting you down is a scary premise. Considering that they did not have sophisticated computer effects at the time and mostly relied on real props, the alien's movement was well done. There were still times where it looks awkward. A good movie but it isn't very scary in nowadays' standards.
