Book Review: The Magical Misadventures of Prunella Bogthistle

Review:  #550
Title:  The Magical Misadventures of Prunella Bogthistle
Series:  N/A
Author:  Deva Fagan
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Don't judge a book by its cover… or by its title.  While it may seem like a throwaway title aimed at younger audiences, The Misadventures of Prunelle Bogthistle is more intriguing and interesting that you would expect.  The story starts off like your typical fantasy, without too much fanfare and a bit dull.  By the time you're a few chapters in, the plot picks up and the events are much more exciting.  Prunella wants to be a bog-witch, a type of evil villain but she fails.  She ends up with travelling with a boy called Barnaby and together, they set off to retrieve a magical chalice which was stolen.  The author throws a big twist two-thirds of the way in but it is something you could tell was coming much earlier on (too much foreshadowing was used and something about the story had seemed off).  The writing was good, characters likeable and the plot simple enough to be charming yet also complex enough to not be dull.  A classic fantasy that deserves a read.
