Book Review: Edge of Extinction

Review:  #640
Title:  Edge of Extinction
Series:  Edge of Extinction - 1st book
Author:  Laura Martin
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Edge of Extinction is a fantastic first novel in a series that sucks you completely in only a few pages.  It creates a world where dinosaurs were cloned back to life but ends up overtaking humans.  The last remnants of humans are taking refuge underground and Sky Mundy ends up going up to the topside to find her father.  While the plot sounds cliché, the execution is not.  The author has done an amazing job of creating an interesting post-apocalyptic world.  Each tiny piece of detail about how nature has taken over or how the ecosystem now works satisfies that hunger of wanting to know more about the world.  Of course, living sheltered all her life, the survival of Sky on the topside is not easy feat and we get to see a few near misses.  It never gets exaggerated with a few intense sequences.  The only flaw is that we never get to see everything through to the end.  It is not exactly a cliffhanger but the ending felt fairly quick and left you wanting for more.
