Toy Review: Transformers The Last Knight Dragonstorm (Legion)
Review: #407
Name: Dragonstorm
Brand: Transformers
Allegiance: Decepticon
Line: The Last Knight
Year of Release: 2017
Size Class: Legion (Wave 3)
Mold Status: new
DRAGON MODE:
Dragonstorm, as you'd expect, transforms into a dragon. It is of the three-headed type and has the awesome color scheme of black and red (much better than the ugly grey/turquoise of the Leader figure).
This is a good dragon mode. Only annoyance is balancing him on all four legs without tilting his heads down. The rear legs in particular is at an awkward angle.
Above is a comparison against Robots in Disguise (2015) Bumblebee for a size comparison.
The sculpt is simplified for the smaller size but is still quite complex.
A neat side effect of the transformation is that there is some poseability in this mode, including balljoints at the base of two heads, and two joints for each of the wings.
A great little dragon.
TRANSFORMATION:
Quite fun and interesting to be fair. There are some additional steps that you'd wouldn't expect of something this size but the designer went ahead and did it anyway such as flipping the robot head into the chest to hide it in dragon mode, and a detaching tail as a weapon.
ROBOT MODE:
Dragonstorm in robot mode is equally imposing and menacing.
He wears the wings as a cape and it looks stunning. You can adjust it to your liking too, such as giving him a wider wing span.
The headsculpt is busy, making it hard to determine what is what. It's fixed in place due to transformation.
In terms of size, he is a little bit shorter than a typical Legion but makes up for it with his stockiness.
Like Twinferno, he has the dragon heads as his hands. He has shoulder balljoints.
The tail from the dragon mode detaches to form a sword. It is a nice effort from the designer to give us this option as they could have easily kept it as one piece attached to the robot.
He can hold the sword in either hand. Dragonstorm has hip joints, and you can use the transformation joints as knees, although it does look weird if you bend them too much.
A fantastic robot mode that looks great.
OVERALL:
For his size and low price, Dragonstorm is a great little figure that's well worth tracking down. He has a strong color scheme and two stunning modes. There are no obvious flaws to the figure.
