Wolf Children (2012)
Wolf Children is a fantasy animation that tells the journey of a mother raising her children, and the hardships that she had to endure while also being very rewarding. The film had a really beautiful start with Hana falling in love with a man, who is half-wolf. They are happy for a while, having children and seemed like the perfect family until she is left alone one day. Hana moves to the countryside for the benefit of her daughter Yuki and son Ame, both inheriting the ability to transform into a wolf at will. The rest of the film then showcases how Hana manages to scrape a living for their family, and how Yuki and Ame both face their flaws and overcome them. It's especially tough when Yuki and Ame constantly transform into wolves and Hana has to try and keep it a secret from her neighbours. Yuki and Ame go to school and the film is really strong in the fact that it perfectly displays the choices they make and the path they eventually go to. It brings out the fact that raising children is hard and while after the ending, you feel like at least one of Hana's children was a bit selfish, it seems right and left to your own imagination how things are going on afterwards. Wolf Children is a beautiful film that holds a lot of meaning.
