Book Review: Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World Vol. 4
Review: #850
Title: Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World Vol. 4
Series: Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World - 4th volume
Author: Tappei Nagatsuki
Comments: Volume 4 is the start of a new arc and in many ways, the proper start to the story. Subaru and Emilia travel back to the Royal Capital and it is here that we learn a lot more about the royal selection process. Not only that, a huge chunk of the lore of the world is revealed. The cast has also doubled with the rest of the royal candidates and their knights appearing. The new characters have colorful personalities, ones that you’d love to hate. It’s like the author has taken some traits and then dialed up to the extreme for each character as their defining characteristic. Unfortunately for Subaru, he is taught a humiliating and very painful lesson. As the reader, you can’t help but feel that it might have gone too far but you couldn’t take Subaru’s side either. Subaru knows he himself is flawed, stubborn and is powerless but still tries to forge ahead. While it may have worked previously, there is no other way to describe it but to say that he was absolutely demolished in this volume which makes it all the more surprising. In many ways, this was an important volume and you can tell that the characters each have several deeper layers that they keep hidden.
