The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016)
The Huntsman: Winter's War begins before the events of Snow White and the Huntsman, before continuing on after those events. It introduces Ravenna's (the previous film's antagonist) sister, the Ice Queen, and how she came to power and now rules a kingdom to the north. It expands the history of the Huntsman and the plot is ultimately muddled and bogged down by terrible pacing and uninteresting scenes. The Huntsman finds out that his wife was not dead all along, and sets out to find the mirror. The Ice Queen on the other hand, while portrayed as a victim in the opening scenes, ultimately turns into the villain of the film, as expected. Ravenna, despite her death from the previous film, still has a decent amount of screentime thanks to the events set before the first film. The fight sequences, despite trying to be flashy is dull, it doesn't help that with the generous amount of special effects Winter's War has, it significantly distracts the viewer and breaks the immersion. The plot had potential but ultimately lets you down by treading the same old cliches and predictable twists, causing The Huntsman: Winter's War to feel like an unnecessary sequel, particularly when the first one wasn't that great anyway.
