Book Review: KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World 8 – Axis Church vs. Eris Church

Review:  #908
Title:  KonoSuba:  God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World 8 – Axis Church vs. Eris Church
Series:  KonoSuba:  God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World – 8th volume
Author:  Natsume Akatsuki
Comments:  While the story isn’t as tight and is a bit all over the place compared to the previous volume, it isn’t any less enjoyable.  The major plot event is the annual Eris Appreciation Festival that is being held in the town.  However, as you’d expect of Aqua, who gets filled with jealousy and envy, she wants her own Aqua Appreciation Festival and thus begins the clash between the two churches.  It doesn’t get violent but there are some competitive streaks.  Add to Kazuma’s gang is Chris, a significant portion of the volume follows the pair as they try to steal back another Sacred Treasure.  The amount of romantic teasing between Kazuma and the other parties is through the roof in this volume.  We constantly get flirting between Kazuma and Megumin, Darkness and Chris, the light novel even ends on a significant one even though it warns not to get your hopes up.  It is noticeable though that the focus has shifted from adventurer and learning about the world that Kazuma was thrown into, and more on a typical fantasy harem.  All in all though, the character Chris is a lot more fleshed out and she is as likeable as the other characters, to the point where you want to see more of her.  The humor is natural with Kazuma alternating between being decent to over the top, it’s good that he isn’t a righteous hero, he’s not afraid to go dirty when need be.
